Something that I had heard ..

I’m pretty sure I heard this story from my most favourite monk, Ajahn Brahm at some point in life but I can’t really give you a reference in form of a link or his book or talk .. but I want to write something that draws on from what he had said ..

He said (as far as I remember) that once someone called someone a dog.. The person got very angry and felt really insulted and wanted to take revenge .. that how can this random person call me a dog ..

The very next minute, a strange realisation set in and he sat down to look at himself .. He didn’t have a tail, neither did he bark, didn’t even have 4 legs .. He wasn’t a dog, he was a human. So he started laughing and realised that it is not his problem or that he doesn’t have to think on how someone has called him a dog because he is not one.. It’s the other persons problem who just called him a dog .. the more he got into the depths of this realisation, the more he couldn’t stop laughing at being called a dog and in turn all that revenge and anger disappeared .. He just walked away from the whole situation saying .. May he be blessed with clarity of thoughts ..

Diving into this story, we are called so many things by so many people at so many instances and now if we start thinking about each one of them or even one of them as to he said be this to me and she said this about me.. it doesn’t really work .. One of the finest work that a human has is to talk and to express what he feels without the liability to hold that exact same expression and feeling forever ..

People grow. People change. So do their likes, dislikes, thoughts and feelings .. hence, for every thought of someone else towards you, you can’t be tying yourself down to either prove or disprove it .. Like everything else, you got to let it pass and work on your own self in whatever capacity and time that you are blessed with ..

Hence, next time on, when someone says something that’s insulting or abusive, rather than reacting with how dare he/she?! Pause, laugh and work on your inner light and make it shine bright ❤️

What if ..

If you think of yourself as a railway station or an airport; then all the planes, trains become the thoughts that come and go. Some stay longer than others. Some break down on your platforms and some need that extra time to clear your tracks. But they all eventually go and pass. Just as time and thoughts in a human.

The toughest bit is to be that station or that airport day after day, night after night, year after year. Maintaining that infrastructure, letting people and circumstances work on you, expanding and shrinking, perhaps at the same time. Having engineers repair your base, having someone put more bricks on you or even having someone to colour your walls for you can be daunting and exhausting for long.

If the mindfulness remains that you are not to convert yourself into one of your own passengers or into one of your own carriers, then whoever jumps on whatever vessel, is exactly like watching the world go by in its thoughts and battles without you being a part of the circus.

Most of the times, the loss of this mindful living is lost and the tendency to jump on that train in a search towards that destination is way too tempting than just to watch it go by.. And what does it bring? The destination still remains a far fetched dream and the journey becomes complicated without a reason or a cause.

Hence, to watch the world go by and being that station or that airport or that platform to let things be in the lap of time is a way into peace.

Reality that we seek.

Why do we seek ‘reality’.. Who seeks reality?! Who is it that wants to know what is real and what is not?! 😊 The one that seeks is perhaps this mind in this body. The brain helps it. It has all functional parts and then the chemicals and we are all sorted with what is real, what is conscious, what is subconscious and what is not any of this. Thoughts help to ease the knowledge and they also help you raise the complexity surrounding this very knowledge. Feelings on the other hand set you free. The journey from thoughts to theories to feelings is convoluted and hence experiences occupy a large part of our dominant decision making areas. However, reality is as unreal and real in each and every dimension when you seek it from this body and in every state that the brain can possibly go in. The ‘awakening’ then just becomes stateless, mindless, body less. It is nothing. It is all about nothingness.

You.

You be your light, your strength, your praise and your delight.

You be who you want to be, what your heart desires.

You be ruled by the virtues, hold the vices far.

You be your own inner self and never put on a mask.

You walk and mend your broken roads as life would demand.

You look back at you in the mirror when time runs you down rough.

You unchain your dreams, raise your patience and fill your heart with love.

You feel every feeling that is filled in you and even shoved.

You be the lyrics of the song that you would like to sing and dance.

You be the rhythmic pulse of the universe that you were always set out to develop.

You having this body and not that, shouldn’t discourage you.

You being in power and not, shouldn’t encourage you.

You be the diver that shuns fear in its face.

You be the leader of you, that is here to be a part of this very human race.

You be not someone else other than you; you be guided by the truth that is you.

Use and abuse

Since when has body become so important?

That you need to feel powerful by using others’ to prove?

The constant tussle between use and abuse

Has crossed all lines, broken all barriers of refuse.

The terms keep changing sheets; it’s money, I am told

Someone pointed it out, they are poor and hence they sold.

Sold the person, sold the child; sold the body by cutting all ties.

Did you not think even for once, that the requirements of each and every body is limited to a few rising suns?

You have to get into the same earth as the body you ruined,

There’s no denying truth to the eternity that you cease to have never understood.

Then why use and abuse another body just for fun?

When the laws of nature get to you; clearly there isn’t a better ground for you to run.

You, the life

That awkward sensation of a touch,

that feeling of being loved,

that moment when your world collapsed,

the burden of being lied;

that process of breathing that you had to re-learn,

that accountability that you had to burn,

the roads that you had to stare,

that journey which was fruitlessly despair;

the sentence that broke your soul,

the gifts that burned your clothes,

that freedom that even you envisage,

that glory that you would rather cultivate;

the nation that you have always loved,

the books that you have covered up;

the writings that you have torn into pieces,

the knowledge that you reuse to cliche;

that body of yours, when it was criticised,

that moment when your associations failed to divine;

the dilemma that you breathe in, we all do;

you’re the mother, the carrier of life,

undeniably broken yet forgivingly new.
..

When did I decide?

My religion decides where my feet goes

My skin colour decides my friends and foes

My soul is caged, it no longer has a choice; somewhere it never had.

When did I decide where I was to be born?

Love wrapped my soul, my body was formed.

It grew in days, it grew in time,

It grew in communities that I made mine.

My soul has been wrapped in love since,

It’s my body that got a name and a tag of religion within.

Before I could let my body embrace my soul,

My future was decided; whether it was to rise or to fall.

I ask again, when did I decide where I was to be born?
